About

This is where I share entirely un-random music, images, quotes and videos.

Sometimes I write semi-personal things meant to be semi-public.
They're vaguely about my life and vaguely worded, just enough for you to vaguely relate.

If nothing else: look. laugh. listen.
live love.

WayForward’s Adventure Time game is releasing for 3DS, too — and not just DS, as was initially reported.
In addition to this fine boxart, we now have the game’s full title (Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why’d You Steal Our Garbage?!) and some details on its story:

“Finn and Jake wake up one morning to find their trash stolen by the Ice King. Jake couldn’t care less about half-eaten bananas, crumpled up burrito wrappers, and old chicken diapers – but when they find out the Ice King is using their stolen goods to construct a Garbage Princess, the heroes embark on a fantastical adventure to teach him a lesson!”

Adventure Time creator Pendleton Ward is working with WayForward (Aliens: Infestation, Mighty Switch Force) on the action-adventure game’s storyline and quests.

The Wu-Tang Clan’s lost Super Game Boy commercial. Shot in Brooklyn (Zoo), this ad features some awesome Super Game Boy graffiti, music from Prince Paul, and voiceovers provided by Rza and Ol’ Dirty Bastard.

I am just dying over this. DYING.

    • Rza: “Something new, kid!”
    • Rza: “You can change the borders!”
    • Girl: “That’s funky.”
    • ODB: “… Incredible!”

Art director Wen 1 COD says this video was “banned from networks for being too ill”, and I believe him!

Anyway, this is a fine opportunity to remind you that our spin-off site DS Dates is holding a “Protect Ya Screen” contest, in which we’re giving away cleverly designed Nintendo 3DS screen protectors. Entering is dead simple!

Buy: Lots of Wu-Tang stuff to enrich your life

A young Gunpei Yokoi, looking like a straight-up ladies man with his Wonderbread pocket square.
Almost every photo you’ll find of the Game Boy creator will show him dressed for work and with a bit of gray in his hair, but this photo scanned from Pix’N Love’s French biography shows Yokoi as a young and cool fellow — one who hadn’t yet suffered the scorn of Nintendo’s former president Hiroshi Yamauchi after choosing the wrong kind of LCD displays for the company’s 8-bit handheld.
This looks more like the Yokoi briefly alluded to in Osamu Inoue’s book Nintendo Magic: “Yokoi had a reputation as something of a playboy — he’d done ballroom dance in college, played music, drove around in foreign cars, and spent his summers diving.”

Indie gaming has really boomed in some unexpected ways…

World of Goo - my new favorite physics simulator since Spaced Penguin, with an *amazing* soundtrack
Super Meat Boy - the platformer equivalent of “bullet hell”
CAVE STORY - an incredible FREEWARE game (on PC) with multiple endings that deeply pleased the Metroid-vania fan in me (played it on the Wii)

…and now stuff like the video above, with such a deeply artistic (and musical!) direction.

    Amazing.

It’s so easy to overlook things these days, especially with the amount of sequels being released and heavily marketed. It’s effective, and it draws sales, but even with the amount of time I’ve spent on favorites like Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead and a handful of non-FPS titles, these few indie titles have quickly joined the ranks among my favorite classics.

And it’s moments like these that make me wonder…what else am I overlooking these days? Time to explore everything a bit more, find some new flavors. :)

Wow I can’t endorse this video hard enough: The History of Video Game Music (Part I)

Entertaining and amusing throughout. For only 10 minutes it was pretty comprehensive, especially since it was obv. meant to be more entertaining than “educational”
